FLOORING QUANTITY

Flooring purchase quantity guide

AREA

Apply waste to area first

For a 20 m² floor with 10% waste, the working area becomes 22 m². Establish the adjusted area before converting it into material units.

TILE

Divide by usable area per tile

A 600×600 mm tile covers 0.36 m². Dividing 22 m² by 0.36 gives about 61.11, so 62 tiles are required after rounding up.

BOX

Round up again for boxes

If 62 tiles are required and a box contains 12, the purchase quantity is 6 full boxes, not 5.17. Unit rounding and box rounding are separate steps.

WOOD

Use usable installed area per box

Wood flooring packages differ in piece count and usable coverage. When the manufacturer provides installed area per box, that value is usually a better input than reconstructing coverage from nominal board dimensions.

VINYL

Check roll width and cutting direction

The same floor area can require different roll lengths depending on roll width, room direction, seams, and cuts. Treat the area result as a first purchasing reference and verify the cutting plan separately.

COST

Apply cost to the real purchase unit

Estimated cost should use rounded purchase units such as full tiles or boxes, not only the theoretical area. Delivery, accessories, and labor are separate.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

01How many 600×600 mm tiles for 20 m² with 10% waste?+

The adjusted area is 22 m² and each tile is 0.36 m², so 62 tiles are required after rounding up.

02How many boxes for 62 tiles at 12 tiles per box?+

62÷12 rounds up to 6 boxes.

03What input is best for wood flooring?+

Use the usable installed area printed for each box when available.

04Can this determine exact vinyl roll cutting?+

No. The first version is an area-based reference; cutting direction can change actual rolls needed.
